North Charleston, SC – We are pleased to announce that Dr. Darlene Carolyn Bernard, FACOG, IFMCP, has recently joined the Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine (COEM).

Dr. Darlene C. Bernard is, a Board Certified OB/GYN, has been practicing for over 32 years. She has attained certification as a Functional (Integrative) Medicine Specialist from the Institute of Functional Medicine. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1985. Dr. Bernard completed her medical school in 1989 and residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1993 from the University of Maryland.

Dr. Bernard has over 30 years of experience in GYN services, including Management of PCOS, Therapeutic IV Therapy, IV Stem Cell Infusions, Bioidentical Hormone Replacement for Men and Women through pellet therapy and injections, PMDD, PTSD, Femtouch procedures for vaginal rejuvenation, high dose vitamin C therapy for breast cancer patients, etc. Additionally, she enjoyed duties, including education of Registered Nurses, Laboratory Staff, Nurse Practitioners, and other office staff on various functional medicine topics.

She has been honored with various awards, including Senior Administrative Chief Resident at the University of Maryland Hospital for OB/ GYN Residency Program in 1992-1993, Howard Hughes Research Fellowship Award from the National Institute of Health in 1990-1991, and University of Maryland Medical School Senior Excellence in Research Award in 1989. She has also featured in an editorial focusing on African- American Heroes in February 2014 in The Oakland Post, Detroit, Michigan.

At COEM, she will provide treatments including Bioidentical Hormone Replacement for Men and Women, adolescent GYN, therapeutic IV therapy, menopause, and several other women’s health issues using conventional gynecology combined with functional medicine. Dr. Bernard prioritizes forming therapeutic partnerships with patients using the functional medicine approach to manage women’s health issues and autoimmune and chronic medical disease with lifestyle modifiable behavior and patient education to increase the quality and longevity of life.

We believe that her experience and expertise will help us provide high-quality patient care and result-oriented treatment for allergy-induced illness, food allergy symptoms, autoimmune disorders, and more.
