Progesterone gets its name from “for gestation” because its highest levels occur during pregnancy. Without the high levels a mother would reject her boy baby. But, progesterone is present and functioning throughout our entire life. It is equally important to both men and women.

Everyone is trying to reduce their cholesterol levels but cholesterol is the essential molecule we begin with to synthesize Progesterone as well as all of our sex and adrenal hormones. This is one good reason you should explore the alternatives to taking cholesterol-blocking drugs. Let’s focus on Progesterone, the subject of this alert.

Progesterone’s contributions to health and well being are:

1-Essential for maintaining pregnancy.
2-Lowers blood pressure.
3-Converted by the adrenal glands into all of the stress hormones.
4-Promotes calmness.
5-Relieves water retention.
6-Protects the brain against estrogen induced brain fog.
7-Helps form the protective layer around nerve endings.
8-Provides significant protection against heart disease.
9-Offers protections against osteoporosis.
10-Is necessary for balancing many other hormones and nutrients in the body.

And most importantly, it balances the proliferative effects of estrogen preventing breast, prostate and uterine cancer. The epidemics of these cancers, remember, are caused buy dominance of the hormone estrogen. Not because there is an overabundance of estrogen in our bodies but because we have so little progesterone.

During Menopause your estrogen levels drop about 50% but your progesterone drops 99% leaving what Dr. John Lee calls “estrogen dominance”. Another disastrous situation of young women is the occurrence of anovulatory menstrual cycles. If you don’t ovulate, even if you have normal menses, you do not make progesterone. It is estimated that as many as one third of women are having anovulatory cycles.

The point of all this is that risk of cancer to the breasts is increased in young women with little to no progesterone and to perimenopausal and menopausal women when again progesterone is very low to absent.

Therefore, I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for women to have adequate levels of progesterone. (200-600 times more progesterone than estrogen.) The only way to be sure if you have adequate levels is to measure it in the saliva. This applies to both men and women. The only way to measure the free and available levels of hormones is to use saliva. Blood levels measure only the bound and non-useable form.

Although I have said this before it bears repeating again and again. A physician with many years of experience said, “I have never seen a woman with high levels of progesterone ever get breast cancer, not one.”

Also, the most common pathology of the breast found on mammography and thermography is Ductal Carcinoma in Situ. It is said to represent stage 0 cancer. Dr. Lee felt strongly that this was caused by a deficiency of progesterone and if supplemented the lesion returned to normal. And men, don’t feel left out because treating men with progesterone often also reverses prostate cancer.

A deficiency of progesterone can lead to many health issues. It is fortunate that this can be treated.

At a time when health care is bankrupting our country, it is strange that our government and medical profession refuse to learn what we already know.

I have been repeating myself over and over again extolling the importance of the sun and its by-product Vitamin D in reducing the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, depression, and autoimmune diseases by as much as eighty percent. All of this is free, in the presence of adequate sun exposure, or by taking one 2,000 to 5,000 I.U. capsule of Vitamin D3, costing $7.50 to $10.50.

Now we learn that, at a time when obesity, alcoholism, and smoking are increasing, the country of Finland has been able to reduce its incidence of cardiovascular disease and stroke by sixty percent countrywide. Finland did this by ordering all food establishments to switch from regular ordinary salt to a low sodium, high potassium, magnesium salt that also contained the amino acid lysine. This all began in 1994, in Finland, yet no one on America was willing to imitate this great accomplishment. Consider that a sixty percent reduction in heart disease and stroke would mean the saving of 353,000 American lives and billions of dollars of medical expenses.

Well, my friend Dr. Jonathan Wright has now arranged for this Finnish salt to be available in our country and for the nominal sum of $7.60. You merely substitute this salt in your saltshakers and use about a half teaspoon a day in your cooking and at the table.

This substitution is believed to account for an average increase in life expectancy of six to seven years for the Finish people, and all for the investment of one to two dollars a month.

I was surprised at the response we received from the last E-alert I sent out on probiotics. It apparently touched a core in many of you. Because of this response I thought that I might add a few more points to this topic.

It is estimated that about 70% of our immune system resides in the lymphatic tissue of the G.I. tract. Dr. David Williams very succinctly explained, “When you have a break in the mucosal barrier, toxins and undigested foods can more readily enter the blood stream. This is often the beginning of food allergies and systemic toxicity problems” which results in multiple signs and symptoms like headache, fatigue, brain fog, classical allergy with hives, asthma, etc, but also just not feeling well.

Stress of all kinds, as well as real physical trauma, cause major insults to our bodies but recent research shows that providing abundant Probiotics to our intestines can literally prevent or reduce this trauma.

A study in Greece with trauma patients showed that treatment with probiotics reduced inflammation and risk of pneumonia and blood born infections as well as length of stay in intensive care and time spent on mechanical ventilation. An animal study revealed that when newborn animals were separated from their mothers they developed serious illness or disease. However, when pre-treated with adequate Probiotics no damage to the young animals occurred.

Those studies are important because they show us how we can protect ourselves from the sequelae of both physical and emotional injury. As allergy is the number one problem in all of the patients that I see, I can’t emphasize sufficiently the importance of our gut flora in reducing allergic disorders. The most important time to introduce these organisms is when we are born, but it is never to late to replenish by supplementing. As I pointed out in our recent alert, we need to stimulate our secretory IgA immunoglobin levels, first using the yeast probiotic, Saccharomyces Boulardii and then using Lactobacillus rhamnosus (Factor 1). [Please note: you may take these both together but wait to add Factor 1 until after you’ve gradually worked up to one capsule a day of Saccharomyces Boulardii. When your bottle of Sacharomyces Boulardii is finished, you may stay on Factor 1 or Ther-Biotic Complete for maintenance.]

These probiotics are anti-inflammatory, anti-toxin, anti-allergy, anti-candida, and powerful boosters over all to our immune system. Remember, if you have taken an antibiotic it can take you over 2 years re-grow your normal flora. Supplementation here is especially critical.

Luke Curtis, my co-author of the review article on the Adverse Health Effect of Indoor Mold, published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, wrote another important paper on the effects of mold that I would like to share with you.

My experience with hundreds of patients exposed and injured by mold demonstrated the multi-systemic nature of toxic mold exposure. However, I never fully realized the pathophysiology of these effects. Luke and his co-authors demonstrated that there is a major imbalance and dysfunction to the endocrine system specifically to growth hormone, thyroid, and the adrenal hormones.

To be specific, 51% were growth hormone deficient, 81% were thyroid deficient, and 75% were ACTH deficient. All of the seventy-nine patients were fatigued and 94% had chronic fungal sinusitis. In all of the deficient patients who were given supplemental growth hormone, thyroid, and cortisol, the fatigue was improved.

Of special interest to me was that only seventeen out of seventy-nine patients were aware of being mold exposed.

This paper documents what I always say, “Many physicians do not have the foggiest idea of what is wrong with a patient.” The field of Environmental Medicine is a new and exciting approach to the care of complex ill patients. We are trained and experienced to try and find the causes of disease.

In our practice, we see a large number of hormone deficient patients identified by hormone testing. Now, after reading Luke’s paper, I have added Insulin Growth Factor One (IgF1) to our evaluation of sick, tired patients to identify growth hormone deficiency. Although doing an endocrine work up is an additional expense, it is worth it if you identify the cause and can treat it successfully.

Treating deficient patients with Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is not as easy or as reasonable as the cost of thyroid or adrenal hormones. But if you are dragging and just not recovering from your chronic debilitating illness, a trial for one to three months may be well worth it. Unlike the other hormones that can be taken orally, growth hormone is given like insulin- by daily subcutaneous injections. Up until now, insurance companies have refused to pay for this treatment.

As Luke’s paper points out, there are now only 60,000 people with the accepted diagnosis that are receiving growth hormone. However, if toxic mold is causing this hormone loss, then the number of people who could benefit is closer to 4.8 million. There are secretagogues or mimics of HGH that are a fraction of the cost of the whole hormone and importantly may work almost as well.

Call the office if you would like to discuss this alert with me. Also, CLICK HERE if you would like to read the entire article.

2010 is almost here and it’s time to make our annual resolutions. If you are like me, my intentions are good but I just can’t always stick to the plan. So this coming year, let’s keep it simple. As you know, I love being your physician and care deeply for each of you. That is why I keep encouraging you to do just a few things to protect your health – the most valuable thing in your life!

So, let me try again to persuade you to take the leap of faith and begin to take good care of yourselves. We have discovered a few supplements that are consistently helpful. Imagine being able to reduce your risk of cancer by 80% as well as heart disease, depression, diabetes and most autoimmune diseases. And while you are doing that, also protecting yourself from influenza – all of this, from one dose of Vitamin D3 a day. However, your dose must raise your blood 25 hydroxy Vitamin D3 level to a minimum of 50 ng. A dose of between 4000 to 5000 I. U. should achieve this. Additionally, it is best taken with an oil or any type of fatty food for better absorption, since it is a fat soluble nutrient.

Remember, twice a year you should have your blood level checked – once in the winter and once in the summer. You do this maintenance on your car at least twice a year so why not for yourself. Strangely, my other ‘harped’ recommendation is also a fat soluble vitamin. Yes, Vitamin K2, as Meniquinone 7. It pulls calcium plaque out of your arteries and puts it back on you bones. It has also been found to reduce the aggressiveness of cancer cells from the prostate. If it works on prostate cancer, it will do the same thing in breast and most other malignancies. Vitamin K2 protects us from three major diseases – atherosclerosis, osteoporosis and cancer. It only takes one 90 mcg capsule a day taken along with your Vitamin D. What could be so profound and yet so simple?

To add the frosting to the cake, lets add one more nutrient derived from the skin of a grape. You guessed it – Resveratrol. Would you believe this nutrient can do all of the following:

1. Reduce platelets from clumping, thus reducing risk of clots, heart attacks and strokes.
2. Reduces your LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
3. Reduces inflammation – the mechanism of injury for most diseases.
4.Is a powerful anti-oxidant.
5.Induces apoptosis, reversing cancer cell proliferation.
6.Reduces Insulin resistance, the first stage of diabetes.
7.Reduces eating, reducing obesity.
8.Increases ATP production in muscle giving us more energy.
9.Increases aerobic capacity and consumption of oxygen – so we can exercise longer and better.
10.Reduces fatty liver from high fat diets.
11.Last and by no means least, increases the longevity genes to help us live longer.
Resveratrol, at one 300 mg capsule a day, comes as close as possible to being the panacea that treats everything.

So here you have it, three nutrients providing you with the best cost effective insurance policy you could have.

Here’s wishing you and your families a blessed holiday season,

DISCLAIMER: Per the FDA, Thermography should not be used as the sole device to diagnose or screen for breast cancer or other conditions. Thermography should not be used in place of mammography and is only for use in addition to other diagnostic or screening devices. Use of thermography carries the risks of a delayed or missed diagnosis.

This week’s controversial government study on Mammography created quite a bombshell leaving women confused about what they should do.

You, as my patients, should be very clear as to Mammographic screening of your breasts. I have urged all of you to use Thermography as an adjunct screening tool for breast cancer and confirm with ultrasound and MRI. Mammography for screening is considered by the FDA as the first line of defense but be aware of radiation and compression and the high incidence of false positives. As reported, for every 100 mammograms performed, almost half are false positive and result in further invasive procedures and greatly increased anxiety.

Please remember that on average the life span of a woman from first cancer cell until death is 15 years. The greatest death rates for breast cancer are between ages 40-45 years. It may be advisable to begin screening at 25-30 years of age. In this instance, if you started screening at 40 years, you could miss these early tumors. This would especially affect black women whose cancers occur earlier and are more aggressive.

Thermography has zero dangers or side effects as well as being markedly sensitive and specific. There are minimal false positives. Mammography is considered the first line of defense in diagnosing breast cancer. Thermography offers you a safe and most cost effective technique for breast cancer screening as an adjunct diagnostic tool to Mammography. The most common abnormality found in the breast is a DUCTAL CARCINOMA IN SITU, which is interpreted as STAGE 0 cancer. The great majority of these lesions will never progress to a life threatening invasive cancer and are best left alone. We have been able to literally reverse these lesions back to a normal breast using nutritional intervention, which proves you can reverse this disease process.

The present accepted standard of care results in more biopsies, which lead to lumpectomy or breast conserving surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiation. Men are similarly affected by the standard of care for prostate cancer, which results in surgery, chemotherapy and radiation for the majority of lesions that will never threaten life.

You can reduce your risk of breast cancer and most likely all cancers by 80% with your supplementation of Vitamin D3. To achieve this, however, you must keep your Vitamin D3 level at 50 ng/ml. This equates to about 3000 to 5000 I.U. of Vitamin D3 a day.

To conclude this alert:

1)Give yourself a gift of life – schedule your Thermogram.

2)Take your Vitamin D3, 3000 to 5000 I.U. daily. Measure your blood level twice a year – once in the winter and again in the summer.

I can’t think of a better life insurance policy than this.

We have received several emails and calls regarding your use of the Flu Kit. What we are hearing is that some of you are responding initially, only to exacerbate in hours up to 1-2 days later.

The influenza virus replicates every 90 minutes; which means you have to use your drops at least every one and a half hours. However, this may still not be enough for this rapidly spreading virus.

I therefore, urge all of you to please carry your INTA Flu drops with you. You must use them at the first sign you are getting sick. People describe one minute they are well and in a few more minutes are feeling very sick with sore throat, chest pressure headache and whole body achiness.

If you wait several hours until you get home to start your drops, you may be too late to turn off the disease. The drops are very stable and do not need to be kept in the refrigerator.

Let’s review the best protocol to use:

1. Swallow the Vitamin D3 50,000 I.U. capsules according to your weight, 1000 I.U. per pound of body weight.
a) 150 lbs. = 3 capsules or 150,000 I.U.
b) 200 lbs. = 4 capsules or 200,000 I.U.
Take the larger dose rather than under dosing. For example, if you weigh 125 lbs use three capsules; 80 lbs take two capsules. Use one drop per two pounds (2000 I.U.) of liquid D3 for children under 50 pounds.

2. Begin immediately to take one drop of the INT Alpha for Flu every 10 minutes for 4 doses. If you are not overtly better after the initial 4 drops, repeat the rush of another 4 doses; one drop every 10 minute.

3. Next, start the booster regimen of one drop every 90 minutes until bedtime and if awake, continue throughout the night.

4. If you are still sick when awakening on day two, do another rush of 4 doses (step 2), followed every 90 minutes with booster dose (step 3).

5. You cannot overdose on drops. So continue with rushes or boosters for as long as it takes to terminate the disease.

If the H1N1 vaccine becomes available in your community, you must decide whether to take it. Many authorities are discouraging vaccine use. This may be one situation where you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t. I personally feel that it may be better to take Vitamin D3 4000 to 6000 I.U. daily until the flu epidemic stops and to use your Flu kit if you should get sick. (Please note the increase from previous alerts.) The more important question is whether to vaccinate your children. Whatever you decide, be sure to also give your children Vitamin D3.

Should you need more kits, you may place your order here.

If you are a prospective or new patient, information included here may not be pertinent to your health at this time. We invite you to learn more about our comprehensive treatment approach.

The month of October has been designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month but I hope, every day of the year, you are aware of a disease that ultimately affects one in seven women in their lifetime. In keeping with the National Breast Cancer Awareness the Center is offering a $115 discount gift (click here for coupon) those who need to repeat their annual breast exam and for anyone who has never had a Thermogram.

In 1982, the FDA approved Thermography for adjunct screening for breast cancer. With this technology we can detect changes in a breast 6-10 years before mammography and can do this without without exposure to radiation or painful compression. Thermography imaging of the breast is greater than 90% sensitive and specific, i.e., if an abnormality is present, it will rarely miss it.

It is estimated that 84% of women in North America have “Benign Breast Changes”. These changes are now known to increase risks of cancer. The exciting facts are we can reverse these changes through nutritional intervention. Evidenced based experience demonstrates your ability to decrease risks of breast cancer by at least 80% when you keep your blood Vitamin D3 level above 50 ng/ml. The addition of progesterone, iodine, Selenium and I3C/DIM reduces your risks even more.

The message today is: you don’t have to fear the scourge of breast cancer anymore if you will be aware and proactive. The Center’s Program for Women’s Health is ready to assist you. You can also visit our website at

There has been sufficient feedback from patients who have used the Flu Protocol, Vitamin D and sublingual INTA, to confirm its ability to quickly turn off the disease but more importantly to prevent the occurrence when exposed. Review the protocol by CLICKING HERE.

Over the years, I have learned several very powerful secrets to beautiful skin. The first is keeping the skin well hydrated. Yes, the ‘6 to 8 glasses of water a day’ are certainly important. This is especially true as we age because older people tend to stay in a state of dehydration. Using nutrients with hydrating properties can be a great help. Vitamin B5, Pantothenic Acid, is just a great one.

I designed a transdermal cream containing the equivalent of 4000 mg. of Panthenol, which you rub all over your face at night before you go to sleep. You can also put it on again in the morning. Make up can be applied on top of the cream as it soaks into the skin without leaving any film. This hydrating cream is great for both men and women. You may not want to use any make up when you see how great your skin looks.

The movie star, Suzanne Somers, has certainly gotten the message across in her many books that our hormones are vital to aging. Yet we fear that our hormones will increase our risk of breast, uterine and prostate cancers. This fear cannot be evidenced base when you know that these cancers are extremely rare in very young men and women when the normal hormone ranges are at their highest levels.

Remember you want to have the same hormone levels when you are old as when you were young. You may have “normal” levels of a 65-90 year old but ideally you want to be ’20’ again. The only way you can have that is to supplement with estrogens, progesterone, DHA and testosterone. You don’t know what your sex hormone levels are unless you measure them and that is easily done using a comprehensive saliva hormone panel, which you can do at home. Your fountain of youth is but 3 weeks away when you review your levels and decide to supplement them if they are low.

You must never take Estrogen or Testosterone without balancing with Progesterone. To quote Dr. Wilson, “I have never seen a woman get breast cancer if she has high levels of progesterone. NOT ONE.”

The other two secrets to beautiful skin is a well functioning G.I. tract with an adequate bacterial flora, as well as a functioning detoxification system. Probiotics are a critical aid to everyone desiring good health. I recommend Ther-Biotic Complete, which contains 25+ billion CFUs of multi-species probiotics.

What I also learned was toxic pollutants contaminating our bodies play havoc with our skin. This is especially true of heavy metal poisoning and specifically mercury poisoning. When I have chelated patients with severe acne many clear dramatically.
Just as we can measure our hormones, we can measure our body burden of toxic heavy metals. You simply swallow a chelating agent and collect your urine for 6 hours. The laboratory does the rest. You may even notice an immediate lessening of blemishes just with the challenge chelation dose. Continuous chelation will be required over many months to remove mercury from your body if you have a body burden. You may also note a change in your mood, a feeling of overt happiness after just one challenge dose, potentially revealing the cause of two major problems in your life – your skin and your mood.
