Dr. William Weirs and Dr. Stephen Elliott have experience providing IME (Independent Medical Evaluations) and IMR (Independent Medical Reports) services. An IME or Independent Medical Evaluation is often used to determine if an injury has occurred, causation for the injury, and any permanent impairment due to the injury of an individual who is NOT an existing patient of the physician. An IMR is an assessment of the medical records without seeing the person and/or an evaluation of an individual via an appointment. These assessments are requested to determine eligibility and benefits as well as potential compensation for an injury. They can be requested by an individual or by an insurance company or parties to a legal matter.

COEM has extensive experience performing records reviews and in person evaluations specific to general health as well as specific injuries related to chemical, mold, heavy metal, and adverse drug reactions including vaccines.

Evaluations are non-partial and are a professional medical opinion of the medical records presented as well as any physical examinations performed, specific to each case in point.

An objective and non-biased, independent assessment of the records or individual are made to determine exposure, causation, potential treatment modalities, and even the appropriateness of prior procedures and processes related to the injured party.

When requested a rating of degree of disability or injury as well as establishment of maximum medical recovery can be made, if the facts provided and/or the presenting individual presents with symptoms which can be documented.

IME’s and related IMR’s are often performed in pursuit of a resolution of a dispute, for claims management, and insurance as well as legal matters. At times a request is made to indicate the potential of fraudulent claims as well as determining an individual’s functional capacity to continue work at all or with determined specific restrictions and/or accommodations.

While a standard IME may address pain, sensitivity, and discomfort as well as ranges of motion, activities of daily living and any mental capacity or related reduction in mental health; an IME related to toxicity can include additional testing which is specific to exposure to contaminants and the resulting biomarkers of exposure and biomarkers of effect which result in those exposures.

During an IME the doctor will ask relevant questions of the individual in regard to their work and life history, medical records, specifics of an injury and exposures, treatments performed to date, and the individuals personal assessment of their abilities to perform activities of daily living as well as activities related to their specific work and work duties in general.

If a complete medical report is required, the physician writes up an extensive review of the records and of their examination of the individual and presents the same to the party who requested the IME and IMR. If only a medical records review has been requested then a summary of the records and the physician’s findings in regard to those records as it relates to their best professional opinion based on years of experience are relayed in writing, without a physical evaluation of the individual.
